A long right-hander wraps into this sheltered bay on big ESE swell, producing rides up to 200 yards on the rare days it truly fires. Located on Bermuda, Horseshoe Bay is a sandy-bottom beach break with some rocky sections that stays mellow most of the year but transforms when a hurricane or powerful storm swell arrives. Optimal conditions call for ESE swell, WNW to WSW winds, and a non-tidal read since tidal range here is minimal. Size range runs thigh-high to overhead, with the right point needing genuine push to wrap properly into the bay. The lineup is welcoming and rarely crowded with surfers, though swimmers and tourists pack the beach during peak summer hours. Bottom: sand with rock patches. Season: September through December, April and May. Consistency: medium. Hypothermia is the primary hazard, so dial in your wetsuit thickness before paddling out in winter months.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism is effectively non-existent. The local vibe is welcoming and the surf crowd is thin year-round. Summers bring heavy tourist and swimmer traffic to the beach itself, so dawn patrol or late-afternoon sessions in July and August keep you clear of the congestion in and out of the water.

Access & Facilities

Horseshoe Bay is Bermuda's most popular beach and straightforward to find. Parking exists nearby but access to the surf zone requires a short walk. No surf-specific facilities on site, so bring water and anything else you need. Water quality is generally clean.

Nearby Alternatives

When Horseshoe Bay is too small or too crowded, check other south-facing bays on Bermuda's south shore for similar ESE swell exposure. On larger swells, explore the island's east end for more exposed, less-touristed setups.
