A fast down-the-line left peeling over a submerged reef on Upolu's south coast, Salamumu delivers bowly, punchy sections in front of the village with a quicksilver quality when SE to SW swell lines up correctly. Offshore northerlies keep it clean, and mid to high tide fills in the shallower sections enough to make the ride makeable across 100-200m of reef. At 2-6ft it's a playful, workable wall, push it toward 8-10ft and the speed and commitment required step up sharply. Intermediate to advanced surfers are the target audience, and the lineup sees moderate crowds rather than the heavy pressure found at more camp-connected setups nearby. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: April through October. Consistency: medium. Surf it on a clean SE swell with northerly winds early before any sea breeze fills in from the south.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds show up sometimes, partly tied to Sa'Moana resort proximity. This is not a heavy localism situation by Samoan south coast standards, but respect for the village and reef goes a long way. Dawn patrol or arriving midweek gives you the best chance of a quieter session.

Access & Facilities

No formal parking and no facilities at the break itself. The resort nearby is the closest option for logistics. The reef is the primary hazard, and low-tide sessions over shallow coral should be avoided. No pollution or water quality concerns flagged.

Nearby Alternatives

When Salamumu is flat or blown out, the Sa'Moana reef out front can produce rights on different swell angles. Aganoa to the east offers both a bowly right and a screaming fast left for surfers who want more variety, and Coconuts is worth the effort when the swell is pumping.
