Crowd & Localism
Dumpers sees rare crowds by Bocas standards, largely because the wave filters out less experienced surfers on its own terms. The consequence level acts as its own bouncer. Respect that self-selection and do not bring beginners.
Short, square, and unforgiving, Dumpers is a submerged reef break on the Caribbean coast of Panama's Bocas del Toro archipelago that earns its expert-only rating on every session. It fires on N to E swells in the 2-10ft range, with westerly winds keeping the face clean. The takeoff is often a near-vertical air drop onto a ledge of dry reef, leaving zero margin for error. Only experienced surfers with a solid tube game should paddle out. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: peaks with Caribbean swell windows, most consistent Oct-Feb. Consistency: medium. The wave runs short, 50m at best, so position yourself precisely from the first stroke or you will find the reef. On bigger days, Inside Dumpers offers slightly longer walls with marginally less square tubes, but it remains a fast, technical wave throughout.

Named for the garbage dump across the road from the break, the access point is straightforward but there are zero facilities on site. Bring water, wax, and a first-aid kit. The reef is unforgiving, so board insurance and a helmet are worth considering. No parking fees reported.
When Dumpers is too big or too small, Paunch reef break is a 10-15 min drive and offers quality lefts with a tubular section that works across a broader skill range. Bluff beach to the north runs hollow and powerful on bigger swells and provides a longer, higher-volume option for those days.
