A right-hand sandbar wave named after a frog-shaped boulder sitting on the north side of the beach, The Frog sits on the coast of Northern Norway and delivers mellow, rolling rights suited to longboards and funboards. A river mouth feeds the sandbar, and the boulder itself influences how the wave breaks. SW swell at 0.6 to 1.0m with short period is the sweet spot. High tide is ideal since the bay needs sufficient water depth to produce a clean right. East to NE winds keep the face tidy at light strength. The wave closes out in larger, longer-period swells. Suitable for beginners and progression surfers. Crowds are light though campers and families share the beach in summer. Bottom: sand. Season: fall, winter, spring. Consistency: moderate, sandbar shifts. Pack a thick wetsuit and gloves in winter, the water is genuinely cold, and be aware of the rip current that sets up close to the boulder.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is mellow with a welcoming local vibe. You can expect to share the water with a handful of surfers but it rarely gets competitive. Summer draws campers and families to the beach, so the car park and shoreline get busier even when surf is minimal.

Access & Facilities

A dedicated car park sits close to the beach with a short paddle to the break. Overnight camping is possible, leave no trace. The rip near the boulder is the main in-water hazard. Water quality is excellent. In winter, cold is the primary concern.

Nearby Alternatives

Northern Norway has scattered beach and reef breaks spread across the archipelago that pick up similar SW and NW swells. When The Frog is closing out in bigger swell, nearby exposed points may offer more defined shape, though conditions across the region share the same short-period window requirements.
