A fast, barreling reef break in Boca del Rio, Veracruz, Marti punches well above its weight for Gulf of Mexico standards. SW to SE groundswells from 3ft up trigger quick, hollow sections that can hold to 8ft+ on solid days. Offshore NE winds clean things up, with mid to high tide generally producing the best shape. The wave is short on most days, under 50m, but on a good swell it stretches to a proper ride with genuine barrel sections. Reef is shallow and the rocks extend well out from shore, so confident duck-diving and solid ocean awareness are non-negotiable. Bottom: reef. Season: late summer and fall for tropical swell. Consistency: moderate, Gulf-dependent. Bring a board you can throw in tight spots and scope the lineup before paddling out, especially on bigger days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays this spot sees almost nobody. Weekend crowds stay light, a few surfers at most. The local surf community anchors around the nearby Ducto shop on the boulevard, and standard respect protocols apply. Don't drop in on the reef, read the pecking order, and you'll be fine.

Access & Facilities

Park on the streets near the beach in the Boca del Rio area off the boulevard. The walk to the water is short, but watch your feet: rocks sit very close to the surface for 100m from the sand out to the sea. Ducto surf shop is your go-to for local knowledge and gear. Water quality in the Veracruz urban zone can be variable, check conditions after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

When Marti is flat or blown out, the wider Veracruz coastline offers beach break peaks that handle onshore conditions more forgivingly. Point breaks further north along the Veracruz coast can pick up different swell angles when the main reef isn't firing.
