Tucuns sits on the exposed Atlantic flank of Búzios, just beyond Geribá, and picks up more swell than almost any other beach on the peninsula. South and SW swells generated by Antarctic storms track straight into the bay from April through October, producing punchy 3-6ft beach-break peaks across a wide sandy stretch. The wave suits intermediates who can read shifting sandbars and handle short walls that close out when the swell gets overhead or the wind swings onshore. Crowds are lighter than the better-known Geribá just to the west, though weekends in peak swell season still bring a local crew. Bottom: sand. Season: April to October. Consistency: moderate to good in winter swell months. Arrive early on south swells if you want uncrowded peaks before the wind fills in from the north.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lighter than Geribá on most days, but Brazilian surfers know this beach breaks better in solid swell. Expect a competitive local crew on good winter swells, especially on weekends. Localism is mild by Brazilian standards. Arriving at dawn on weekdays gives you the best runs with the least friction.

Access & Facilities

The beach is accessible from Búzios town by road, a short drive past Geribá. Limited shade and facilities directly on the beach, so bring water and sun protection. No serious hazards beyond rip currents on bigger swells, which form predictably at the edges of sandbar sections.

Nearby Alternatives

When Tucuns is closing out in large swell, Geribá one bay west offers more shelter and a longer rideable face. Praia Brava, on the opposite side of the headland, picks up N to NE groundswell and can offer a complete contrast when southerly energy is maxing out.
