When a strong Bora wind hammers down the Adriatic, this beach break south of Rimini's pier briefly wakes up and delivers short, punchy peaks on an otherwise flat stretch of Italian coastline. Optimal conditions require a NE to E swell, ideally pushed by Bora (the regional NE katabatic wind), with mid tide and offshore or light winds. Size runs 1-6ft, but the window that works well is narrow: below 3ft it barely breaks, above 6ft it gets messy. This is a spot for all skill levels on its day, though realistically it draws beginners and intermediates since the waves are short and sloppy rather than performance-oriented. Bottom: sand. Season: winter, with 5-6 genuinely good sessions per year. Consistency: low. Water quality is a real concern here given the harbour proximity and heavy summer tourism infrastructure, so check conditions before paddling out. The pier's proximity helps define the takeoff zone and makes the peak reasonably readable on smaller days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Rimini is a major European holiday destination, which means locals deal constantly with unfamiliar faces in their lineup. Summer crowds are intense. Winter sessions, when the wave actually works, are calmer but you should still paddle out with respect. Aggressive localism is not reported, but courtesy goes a long way here.

Access & Facilities

The break sits south of the pier. There is parking just behind the beach. The pub called Rock Island is at the top of the pier and can serve as a landmark. Rimini has full tourist infrastructure: food, accommodation, and rentals are all close by. Water quality is a genuine hazard given harbour proximity and heavy coastal development.

Nearby Alternatives

The broader Adriatic coast of Emilia-Romagna has similar beach-break options when Bora swells run. If Rimini is flat or blown out, check nearby stretches north or south along the coast for cleaner or more exposed banks.
