A fast, powerful point break on the western shore of Lake Michigan, Point Beach in Wisconsin fires when the lake generates enough fetch to push organised swell from the north or northeast. It needs NE to N wind swell to activate, works best at high tide, and can hold faces from knee-high up through overhead-plus on a big lake storm. The bottom is rock, and the wave breaks with enough speed and punch to demand respect. Crowd pressure is almost non-existent on weekdays and weekends alike, but the handful of regulars who do show take their waves seriously. Bottom: rock point. Season: late autumn through early winter when lake storms peak. Consistency: low to moderate, highly fetch-dependent. Bring a 4/3 or thicker for the cold water, and check the forecast carefully because flat spells between storms can stretch for weeks.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is nearly empty most sessions. The small local crew that surfs here regularly expects basic etiquette. Do not drop in. On a freezing November morning you may have the whole point to yourself, which is the realistic best-case scenario for this spot.

Access & Facilities

Parking is available near the campground toilet block with plenty of room. The paddle-out runs from the rocks adjacent to the camping area. Facilities are basic: toilets, picnic tables, and a campground. No surf shops or rentals on-site. Water temperature drops hard in autumn and winter, so a sealed 5/4 with booties and gloves is not overkill.

Nearby Alternatives

When Point Beach is flat, other exposed stretches of the Lake Michigan shoreline to the north and south can pick up the same NE fetch. Sandy beach breaks along Two Rivers or Manitowoc occasionally offer smaller, more forgiving conditions when the point is not quite firing.
