The go-to peak at Wrightsville Beach, C Street delivers punchy beach-break peaks on the North Carolina coast that draw every type of waverider from UNCW students to seasoned locals. S and SE swells are the engine here, ideally from chest-high to overhead, with W to NW winds cleaning it up. Low to mid tide produces the best shape. This is an all-levels wave in theory, but heavy crowds mean beginners will struggle to find space. Bottom: sand. Season: late summer through fall for tropical systems, late fall through spring for frontal swells. Consistency: storm-dependent but frequent enough given the active Atlantic season. Show up at dawn before the masses arrive, especially in fall when the university crowd floods the lineup and patience runs thin. After significant rain or a hurricane, water quality can deteriorate sharply due to Cape Fear River runoff, so check conditions before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This place gets packed. Expect heavy lineups, particularly in fall when the student population returns. Localism runs mild by East Coast standards but the sheer volume of surfers creates its own friction. Dawn patrol is the practical solution. Keep your head up, be patient, and avoid dropping in.

Access & Facilities

Street parking with meters runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, outside that window it is unrestricted. Food, water, and surf shops are close. The beach itself is easy to reach on foot from most parking areas.

Nearby Alternatives

When C Street is maxed out or blown out, other peaks up and down Wrightsville Beach can offer similar sand-bottom setups with fewer bodies in the water. Crystal Pier and the south end are worth a walk if the crowd is unmanageable.
