Honeymoon Bay delivers consistent beachbreak peaks on Taiwan's northeast Yilan coast, pulling in swells from a wide N-to-SE window that keeps it working through most of the typhoon season and beyond. Rights at the southern end of the bay tend to be the cleanest, offering fast, hollow sections when the sandbanks align. NW offshores groom the face nicely and it fires at all tides, starting to show shape from around 3ft and holding form up to 6ft-plus before it gets too punchy for casual sessions. It suits all skill levels on paper, but the reality is a busy lineup with occasional aggression toward visiting surfers from a handful of locals. Bottom: sand. Season: typhoon swell season, late summer into autumn. Consistency: high. Arrive early, read the crowd before paddling out, and take inside waves until you have a feel for the vibe.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Dashi gets crowded on weekends and draws a local crew who can be territorial with outsiders. A small number of local surfers have a reputation for being aggressive toward foreigners. Surf with respect, don't snake, and keep a low profile. Dawn patrol on weekdays cuts through the crowds significantly. Being cool in the water and supporting local surf shops goes a long way.

Access & Facilities

Instant access from the road, easy to find, and open to the public. No dedicated parking and no facilities on site, so sort water and food beforehand. Pollution and hazards are low concerns. Local surf shops in the area offer board rentals and some provide accommodation, a worthwhile option for connecting with the community respectfully.

Nearby Alternatives

Just north, Wushi offers a black sand beach with jetty-assisted banks and can be worth checking when Dashi is maxed out or the crowd is unbearable. Further down the coast, Fulong Beach picks up similar swell and adds the variable of a rivermouth sandbar for occasionally excellent peaks.
