A long sandy beach on the Strait of Gibraltar coast, roughly 15 km from Tangier, Plage Oued Allyene delivers consistent, manageable beach break waves across more than 1,500 m of shoreline. SW and W swells funnel through the Strait and produce rolling peaks suited to learners and those working on fundamentals. Offshore winds from the E and NE clean things up, though the Strait's notoriously variable winds mean conditions shift fast. Best in the 2-4ft range, bigger swells can push through but the beach break tends to close out above 5ft. Crowds stay well below what you find at the more publicised Moroccan spots like Anchor Point or Taghazout. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter for more consistent swell. Consistency: moderate. Check conditions early and plan to move quickly as wind windows here are short.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Far less pressure than Tangier's better-known spots. A Blue Flag designation brings summer beachgoers, but the surf lineup rarely gets congested. Standard respect applies: call your waves, don't drop in, be patient at any peak that does attract multiple surfers.

Access & Facilities

Reachable by road from Tangier in around 20-25 minutes. Camping is available directly on site, and the beach carries full summer services including food and water. Gear is better sourced in Tangier before arriving. No notable rip hazards reported, but Strait currents can be unpredictable during large swell events.

Nearby Alternatives

Tangier's urban beaches offer a quick fallback if the sandbanks here are misbehaving. For a significant step up in wave quality, the Atlantic-facing breaks south of Cap Spartel come alive on larger NW swells.
