Crowd & Localism
The difficult access does the crowd management for you. Expect the lineup to yourself or near-empty even on good days. No localism pressure reported, but respect the place and pack out what you bring in.
A raw, exposed beachbreak on the Alentejo coast that can hit 10ft-plus and punish the unprepared, Carriagem sits north of Aljezur near the small town of Rogil. It needs SW to N swell, works across all tides though mid tide tends to clean up the shape, and fires best under E or offshore winds. A-frame peaks can produce both lefts and rights with real power and hollow sections, but a minefield of rocks scattered across the sand means wave selection and positioning are critical. Expert surfers only: this wave is not forgiving. Bottom: beach with rocks. Season: Sep-Mar. Consistency: medium, fickle outside the optimal window. The long dirt-road drive followed by a steep cliff hike to reach the beach keeps the lineup essentially empty, but that isolation also means zero facilities and zero safety net when it gets serious.

Follow signs for Praia da Carriagem from Rogil village center. The road in is rough and long, ending in a steep cliff descent to the beach. Free parking. No facilities of any kind: bring water, food, and a first-aid kit. Nearest services are in Aljezur or Rogil.
Arrifana, a short drive south, offers a top-quality right pointbreak that is more forgiving and better protected from N winds. Amoreira rivermouth is another option nearby when Carriagem is too raw, favoring rights on lower tides.
