A fast, barreling right-hand reef break on the south side of Kandooma in the Maldives' South Male Atoll, this wave wraps into a punchy wall that rewards surfers who can read a quick, powerful section. It picks up swells from the SW to S quadrant, works best at mid to high tide, and handles a size range from knee-high to well overhead. Intermediate surfers can enjoy the wall on smaller days, but when it steps up past 6ft the barrel sections demand confident, committed surfing. Bottom: coral reef. Season: April through October. Consistency: reliable through the SW monsoon window. Access is primarily through Kandooma Resort by boat from the resort's east-side beach, though independent travelers can reach Guraidhoo by the daily ferry from Malé and arrange a short boat transfer from there. Bring reef booties if your feet are soft and pick up wax before you leave Malé.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday and weekend crowd levels are reported as light, but resort guests get priority access and boat-access logistics keep the lineup from filling up the way a beach break would. There are occasional territorial attitudes from individuals claiming the spot is private. It is not a private wave, but resort guests naturally dominate the water. Be composed, read the rotation, and don't force your way into sets.

Access & Facilities

Kandooma Resort provides the smoothest entry via resort boat from the east beach. Independent surfers can take the daily ferry from Malé's Jetty 1 to Guraidhoo, roughly two hours, then arrange a short boat transfer to the break. No walk-up paddle-out from shore. The resort has food, water, and basic amenities. Pack reef booties and sufficient wax, as supplies on the island are limited.

Nearby Alternatives

Guraidhoo Corner, a few minutes by boat, offers a long walling left that picks up similar SW swell and suits a wider skill range on smaller days. When Kandooma Right is maxing out or too crowded, Guru's is the natural backup for the same trip.
