The Mangalui Ndulu, known to regulars as 'The Mango', is an 84 foot custom-built timber sloop operating surf charter trips throughout the Mentawai Islands, Telos, Nias and Hinako, and the Banyak archipelago off West Sumatra, Indonesia. The name translates from the local Nias dialect as 'wave searcher', which describes the boat's operating philosophy: an experienced captain and crew move the vessel to wherever conditions are best, rather than running fixed itineraries to fixed breaks.
What makes it different
The Mango books as a full vessel rather than selling individual berths, so a single group has the boat and crew to themselves. The captain makes real-time routing decisions across the Mentawais, Telos, Nias, and the Banyaks based on current conditions rather than fixed itineraries.
Skill level
The boat targets surfers who are comfortable on overhead-plus reef breaks, given the nature of the waves across the regions it covers. Guests who want to maximise time at hollow, more consequential breaks will get the most from a trip.
