About this camp
Bintang Mentawai is a surf charter liveaboard operating in the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The Mentawais are one of the most wave-dense surf destinations on earth, with a concentration of quality reef breaks spread across an archipelago that stretches roughly 150 km off the Sumatran coast. A liveaboard format gives guests direct access to this spread of breaks, moving between spots according to swell direction, wind, and crowd levels in a way that land-based camps cannot replicate.
What makes it different
As a liveaboard and boat camp hybrid, Bintang Mentawai can reposition between breaks overnight, giving guests access to a wider range of reef passes than a fixed land camp allows. This flexibility is the central advantage in an archipelago where swell angle and wind shift wave quality significantly from one break to the next.
Skill level
The Mentawai reef breaks are predominantly fast, hollow, and powerful, making this destination best suited to intermediate surfers comfortable on reef and to advanced or experienced surfers seeking high-performance waves.
