A mixed beach and reef setup on the southern edge of Rio Grande do Norte, Saji (Praia do Sagi) sits close to the Paraíba border near Baía Formosa, picking up both groundswells and windswells with reasonable consistency. NE swell is the primary driver here, best paired with W-SW offshore winds, and the spot carries some natural shelter from SE winds which helps hold the surface clean when trade winds dominate. Water runs warm year-round at around 28C, so boardshorts are the standard kit. Intermediates will find the most fun, as the mix of beach and reef sections rewards surfers who can read shifting peaks and adjust. Bottom: mixed reef and sand. Season: year-round, with most consistent surf in the NE swell window. Consistency: moderate to good. Arrive early before the onshore trade winds build through the afternoon.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The area around Baía Formosa and Canguaretama sees relatively light tourist traffic compared to the more developed stretches further north near Natal. Expect a relaxed local vibe, but show the usual respect in any unfamiliar lineup, especially on reef sections.

Access & Facilities

The beach is accessed from the Canguaretama or Baía Formosa direction on the southern RN coast. Infrastructure is minimal, so carry water and supplies. The nearby town of Baía Formosa has basic services. Watch for exposed reef sections at lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

Baía Formosa to the north offers additional reef and beach options on the same swell window. If Saji is blown out, the more protected stretches south toward the Paraíba border can offer cleaner conditions on strong trade wind days.
