A consistent beach break 30km south of Maceió that delivers rideable waves on almost any swell, then transforms into a steep, powerful barrel on bigger SE groundswell. Offshore winds from the NW to W are the key trigger, combining with S to SE swell in the 3-8ft range for the best sessions. At size, an outer peak known locally fires with Sunset-style energy: wide, powerful sets that jack up fast and demand commitment. Beginners and intermediates can pick off smaller peaks on smaller days, but the lineup fills quickly, especially on weekends when the crowd turns aggressive. Bottom: sand. Season: March to August for the most consistent South Atlantic swell. Consistency: high year-round. Arrive at dawn to find manageable numbers and cleaner conditions before the sea breeze kicks in mid-morning and the weekend crew arrives from Maceió.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are busy. Weekends are genuinely overwhelming. When conditions are good, the entire Maceió surfing population shows up. Give respect, read the pecking order, and manage expectations if you're visiting on a Saturday with clean swell. Early mornings are the only reliable escape valve.

Access & Facilities

Minibuses run from central Maceió directly to Praia do Francês, roughly 30 minutes. The beachfront has restaurants, bars, and basic amenities. No exotic hazards beyond standard beach-break lip on shallow sand on bigger days.

Nearby Alternatives

If Frances is maxed out or packed, the Alagoas coastline north and south holds other beach-break options depending on swell angle. Maceió's urban breaks offer a shorter commute on smaller, less crowded days.
