Drive Route 1 to the Jalama Road turnoff and follow it to the end at Jalama Beach County Park. Pay the day-use fee, park in the lot, and use the showers post-session. Sharks are a genuine hazard in this stretch of coast.
If Jalama is blown out or too big, Point Conception's broader coastline can offer shelter depending on wind angle, though access is restricted. Heading back toward Santa Barbara, Gaviota and Refugio offer more protected options on NW swells when the beachbreak is maxing out.
