Salani Right fires along a submerged reef on Samoa's south coast, delivering fast, hollow barrels that are mechanical enough to be approachable yet powerful enough to demand respect. S swell is the cleanest angle, wrapping the reef edge into a round, almost predictable barrel with two distinct takeoff sections. SW swell lengthens the face and opens room for turns, more E in the swell shortens things and produces bowly, shifting peaks. N to NE winds keep it offshore. Works across all tides, though lower water can tighten the barrel considerably. Crowd rated 2 out of 5, meaning your lineup competition is mostly other resort guests. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: S-hemisphere winter primary, dawn sessions essential March to October. Consistency: high. The paddle from shore runs roughly 800m, so organise a boat transfer from Salani Surf Resort if your arms need saving for the actual surfing.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Local vibe is welcoming and the crowd is mellow, largely resort-based surf tourists. With no nearby population centre feeding regulars into the lineup, there is minimal localism pressure. Treat the place with respect and it stays that way.

Access & Facilities

Reach the break via a 20-minute paddle or 5-minute boat ride from Salani Surf Resort. No beach facilities at the break itself. The main hazard is reef contact, so booties are worth considering on low-tide sessions. Water quality is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

When Salani Right is maxing out or the wind turns, the channel also serves up a left on its SE side. Further east, Tafatafa delivers fast right-hand peelers on Vaiula Beach for natural footers wanting a change.
