A beachbreak on the southern rim of the Gulf of Ajaccio, Le Ruppione splits into two distinct peaks that reward different swell directions. The left peak wraps around a large rock on the beach's south end, channeling S to SW swell into a punchier, more powerful wall with a natural channel for the paddle-out. The right peak on the north end of the beach responds better when swell swings more westerly, delivering softer, more open faces. Both peaks need E winds to clean up, and the spot works across all tides, though expect short rides under 50m on average days and up to 150m when a proper swell fills in at 4ft plus. Intermediate surfers will find the most fun here. Crowds build on weekends, and while the vibe is generally positive, locals take priority in the lineup. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: medium. Rent boards at Centre Nautique in Porticcio if you're traveling without gear.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekend crowds are real here. The lineup is generally friendly but locals expect priority, and that expectation is worth respecting. Dawn patrol or mid-week sessions in the shoulder season will give you cleaner water and more room. The vibe is described as good as long as you read the social cues correctly.

Access & Facilities

Follow directions toward Pietrosella from Porticcio, roughly 20 minutes south of town. A car park sits near the beach, and you can drive closer by turning right past the restaurant at the beach entrance. Camping is available nearby. No water quality concerns are flagged. Gear rental is available at Centre Nautique in Porticcio.

Nearby Alternatives

When Le Ruppione is flat or maxed out, La Parata and Capo di Feno are the go-to alternatives in the same stretch of coast west of Ajaccio. La Castagne, a reefbreak among granite formations close to this area, is worth seeking when the swell has more punch and you want a more defined wave.
