A shifting sandbar at the mouth of the Pabos River on Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula south coast, this break delivers short, punchy beach peaks when Atlantic swell wraps into the bay. It needs 3-5ft of swell to wake up and can handle 6ft-plus on bigger days. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot before the sandbars shallow out and sections lose shape. The morphology of the bar changes after every significant storm, so expect a different wave each visit. Consistent swell windows are limited to late summer through autumn when Atlantic lows push energy into the region. Cold water and a short ride length keep the crowd thin even on weekends. Bottom: sand. Season: late summer to autumn. Consistency: low to moderate. Bring a 4/3 wetsuit minimum and check recent storm activity before making the drive from Chandler or Grande-Rivière, since the bar can go flat or close out depending on where it has moved.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The spot is reliably quiet. Weekday and weekend crowd levels are both listed as empty, which tracks given the remote location and cold water. No significant localism reported. A respectful attitude to the beach and river mouth environment is still good practice.

Access & Facilities

Reach the spot via Route 132 between Grande-Rivière and Chandler on the south side of the Gaspé Peninsula. A dedicated car park sits directly in front of the beach, with public toilets and an outdoor freshwater rinse station. In summer, lifeguards patrol the swimming beach, so be aware of any flagged swim zones when paddling out.

Nearby Alternatives

Chandler and Grande-Rivière are the closest towns for supplies or shelter. If the sandbar is flat or closed out, the broader Gaspé Peninsula coastline has scattered beach and point setups that respond to different swell angles worth exploring when conditions don't come together here.
