A reef break tucked between two cliffs on Senegal's coast, Secret Spot rewards the patient surfer willing to hunt it down. It needs a solid swell to wake up, starting to show at 3-5ft and capable of holding well overhead on bigger days. Offshore winds and a mid-to-high tide are the conditions to target. The lineup is generally quiet, though occasional visiting surfer groups have been known to make the water uncomfortable when present. Bottom: reef. Season: likely aligned with Atlantic NW swell windows, Oct-Mar. Consistency: low to moderate, requires committed swell. Come on a dawn patrol mid-week during a clean groundswell, and you may find this place entirely to yourself, which is when it earns its keep. Experienced surfers only given the reef entry, cliff-flanked paddle-out, and the fact that no one has properly documented how this wave performs at size.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Normally empty, which is the draw. However, a loosely associated group of visiting foreign surfers has reportedly shown up here and created friction, snaking locals and paddling aggressively. If the lineup is already occupied by that crew, finding an alternative is the smarter call. Give the local surfers in the water the respect they deserve.

Access & Facilities

Access involves a walk down through a valley to a small sand beach sitting between two cliffs. No facilities on site. Bring water, sun protection, and reef booties. The entry and exit require care given the cliff and reef environment. No rentals or food nearby.

Nearby Alternatives

Senegal's Dakar peninsula has several better-documented reef and point breaks that fire on similar Atlantic swells. If this spot isn't working or is occupied, the Cap-Vert peninsula offers more options with easier access and more consistent surf reports to cross-reference.
