Playa de Somo, Cantabria in the north coast of Spain is the 1st surf reserve in Spain and is a magnet for good swells during the whole year. Perfect spot for all levels with a perfect sandbank of over 7 kms.

Getting Here

Playa de Somo is easily accessible from various major transportation hubs, making your journey to this surfing paradise smooth and convenient.

For those traveling by air, the closest airports are Santander Airport and Bilbao Airport. Santander Airport is just a short drive away, approximately 20 kilometers, making it the most convenient option for reaching Somo Beach quickly. From the airport, you can rent a car, take a taxi, or use public transportation to get to the beach. The journey by car typically takes around 20 minutes.

Bilbao Airport, although slightly further away at about 100 kilometers, is also a viable option. From Bilbao, you can rent a car for a scenic drive along the beautiful northern coast of Spain, which takes approximately an hour and a half. Alternatively, you can catch a direct bus from Bilbao to Santander, and then take a local bus or taxi to Somo.

For those traveling by boat, Santander has a major ferry port with regular services from the UK and other parts of Europe. Once you arrive at the port, it’s a short trip by car or bus to Somo Beach. The ferry ride offers a unique and scenic way to start your surfing adventure.

If you prefer to travel by bus, there are regular services connecting Santander and Bilbao to Somo. The bus journey from Santander to Somo takes around 30 minutes, while from Bilbao, it takes approximately two hours, with a transfer in Santander.

Whether you choose to fly, drive, or take a boat, reaching Playa de Somo is straightforward and stress-free, allowing you to focus on enjoying your surfing experience.
